What to Expect at Your First Physiotherapy Appointment

Starting physiotherapy can feel unfamiliar, especially if you’re already dealing with pain or uncertainty about what’s going on in your body.

At Lume Physio, your first appointment is designed to feel calm, supportive, and unrushed. You won’t be pushed, judged, or expected to know all the right words. The focus is on understanding you and creating a plan that feels right for your body.

When You Arrive

The space is quiet and welcoming, with time to settle in before we begin.

We’ll start with a conversation — not treatment. This is your chance to share what’s been going on, what you’re worried about, and what you’re hoping to get out of physiotherapy. There’s no pressure to rush or “perform”.

Your Assessment

The assessment is gentle and collaborative.

We’ll look at how your body moves, where things feel restricted or uncomfortable, and how your symptoms behave with certain movements. Nothing is done without explanation or consent, and you’re always welcome to pause, ask questions, or stop at any time.

If hands-on treatment is appropriate, it will always be discussed first.

Treatment (Only If It Feels Right)

Treatment might include:

  • Hands-on techniques to help settle pain

  • Gentle movement or strength exercises

  • Education about what’s happening in your body

  • Guidance on how to move with less fear and more confidence

You will never be asked to push through pain or discomfort to “prove progress”.

Your Plan Moving Forward

Before you leave, we’ll talk through:

  • What we think is contributing to your symptoms

  • What’s safe to do — and what can wait

  • How to manage flare-ups if they occur

  • What the next steps look like (if you want them)

You’ll leave with clarity, not confusion.

A Space Where You’re in Control

Physiotherapy at Lume is something we do with you, not to you.

You’re always in control of:

  • What’s assessed

  • What treatment you receive

  • The pace of your care

Your comfort and sense of safety matter.

Who This Is For

This space is for you if you:

  • Feel nervous about healthcare appointments

  • Have had past experiences where you felt rushed or dismissed

  • Want to move better without fear

  • Value a calm, considered approach to recovery

Booking Your First Appointment

If you’re ready to begin, bookings are available in-clinic and via telehealth.

You don’t need to be “broken” to benefit from physiotherapy — you just need a space where your body can feel supported again.
